Walking is definitely one of the very best ways to keep fit, get in shape and lose weight. It requires no special tools, no training (you know how to walk right?) and there are no expensive monthly gym fees to pay.
All that you need to get started is a comfortable pair of shoes and a little motivation.
Health experts seem to agree that we should aim for 10,000 steps a day to get the maximum health benefits from walking - but you can start slowly (and you should) and work up to that over time. It's about four and a half miles for someone of average stride length, and it's easier to achieve than you might think.
